Mid-Century Chinese Bronze Horse Sculpture with Inscribed Base – Tang Style, Green Patina –
Elegant solid bronze horse sculpture inspired by the famous Tang dynasty horses of ancient China.
This finely cast piece captures the power and grace of the Tang style, with a raised foreleg, arched neck, and detailed saddle cloths. The sculpture stands atop a rectangular bronze plinth finished in a rich asparagus-green patina.
The base bears two seal-style inscriptions — one on the upper surface beneath the horse, and another on the underside of the plinth.
Both are executed in archaic Chinese script and appear to be decorative or workshop motifs, added to evoke the look of authentic ancient bronzes rather than readable text. These marks give the piece distinctive character and reflect the care of its mid-century casting.
Likely Origin: China, mid-20th century (circa 1950s–1970s)
Material: Solid bronze
Finish: Natural aged green patina (not painted)
Condition: Very good vintage condition — stable patina, no cracks or repairs, minor wear consistent with age.
Dimensions: 11” L × 3” D × 8” H
Weight: Approx. 3 lbs
A handsome and substantial mid-century bronze ideal for display in an office, study, or collection of Asian decorative arts.
