Mid-Century Italian Pierced Bowl by Alvino Bagni (Italy, c.1960)
A striking mid-century modern art pottery bowl attributed to Alvino Bagni, (Lastra an Signa, Italy 1919-2009). He was an acclaimed Italian ceramicist. This wheel-thrown stoneware form features a sculptural openwork design with vertical slotted cutouts and raised rectangular “tabs” around the body. The exterior is finished in a rich olive-brown glaze accented by a matte brick-red rim and highlights, creating a bold contrast typical of Bagni’s experimental glazes produced for Raymor and other high-end export lines.
This item is a mid-century Italian pottery vide-poche (a small dish for holding miscellaneous items) from the "Sea Garden" collection, designed by Alvino Bagni for Raymor. The piece features a distinct "Sea Garden" design with cutout oval windows on the upper rim and applied oval shapes on the flared base. The "Sea Garden" glaze was developed by Bagni in his own factory, Bagni Ceramiche.
Marked “ITALY” on the base.
Approx. dimensions: 9” diameter × 4” high.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition with no cracks or repairs; minor glaze variation typical of handmade Bagni ceramics.
