WWII U.S. Army Aircraft Compass – Type B-16 (Serial No. AC 42-10855)
This is an Authentic World War II U.S. Army Type B-16 aircraft compass manufactured by the A.C. Spark Plug Division of General Motors. This precision magnetic instrument was used for aircraft navigation calibration during the 1940s and is housed in its original hardwood mount. Clearly stamped “A.C. U.S. Army Type B-16 BER. NO AC 42-10855,” it reflects the solid engineering and meticulous design of WWII-era aviation instruments—an excellent and historically significant example of military aeronautical equipment.
The B-16 was a precision aircraft compass used to align or calibrate aircraft directional systems on the ground. It could be mounted on a gimbal for accurate readings free from vibration and interference. The compass was known for its durability and fine adjustment mechanisms.
